The Morgan County African American Museum recently announced the winners of the 2024–2025 Raymond Andrews Prize for Creative Writing! Raymond Andrews, the namesake for the prize, was born in the Plainview Community of Morgan County in 1934. He published three novels and four other books. Almost all of them are set in the fictional Muskhogean County, which is a stand-in for Morgan County. Andrews is a member of the Georgia Writers Hall of Fame. He passed away in 1991. The purpose of the contest was to build excitement for creative writing among area youth. Congratulations to these talented young writers!

The Morgan County High School Percussion Ensemble made its debut at the prestigious Southeastern Percussion Symposium. This event was designed to foster growth, collaboration, and musical excellence in a non-competitive environment. Through quality feedback and engaging experiences, SPES helps ensembles learn, improve, and connect with some of the best educators in the country. Our percussionists performed for a national and world-class panel of judges and clinicians, receiving positive, encouraging, and authentic feedback to help them grow as young musicians. A special thanks to Andrew Duggins, Henry Lin, and Carson Miller for preparing, pursuing, and providing this extraordinary opportunity for our musicians.

We’re incredibly proud to share that Harrison Buck earned 1st Place in Mallet Performance and 1st Place Overall for the entire weekend at the prestigious Southeastern Percussion Symposium! His prize was a $1200 snare drum. 🏆 He competed against 20+ other percussionists from all over metro ATL. Harrison will continue his musical journey this fall as he studies with world-renowned teacher and clinician She-e Wu at Northwestern University. Way to go Harrison!

We are so excited to finally be able to share that the 1st volume of the new literary-arts magazine, Canvas, is available for presale! We have a fun promotion where, for $25, you can become a patron of the magazine and receive a copy and a tote bag. There are other patron levels as well. Please check it out and scan the QR code to place your orders by Thursday 4/24!
This project is the culmination of a year's worth of work by our 5 student editors, and contains 36 full color pages featuring art by 30+ MCHS students. The magazine features poetry, short fiction, narrative nonfiction, graphic design, photography, and fine art (2D and 3D). Major thanks to Tara DeLaigle, Kristin Chandler, and Holly Schultz for helping us find such high-quality works for the magazine.

Congratulations to our MCHS Diamond Dogs! They are your 2025 Region 2-AA Champs! We are looking forward to what lies ahead for the remainder of the season!
