Literacy Student Involvement

We have two opportunities for students to share their love of reading! Watch this video to see what we offer.

Literacy Committee

The Lit Committee is a club that meets monthly to discuss and plan upcoming literacy events. The group has a large influence on the activities that take place in the school revolving around literacy.

  • decorating the library/hallways
  • hosting elementary students to read
  • fundraising for monthly celebrations
  • highlighting monthly readers with parties
  • assits with volunteer opportunities
  • create social media posts to motivate readers
  • share insights on student's literacy perspective

Big Dog Readers

Each month, a genre is selected at random and then five books are voted upon to be our book club read for the month. We enjoyed our club so much that we wanted to do more in our district with reading. Our club members decided to collaborate with the primary school in becoming mentors for struggling readers - BIG DOG READERS. So, once a month, our club members meet with the 3rd-grade mentee to read and discuss literacy. We can't wait to continue this partnership next year!

If you would like to join our book club - stop by the library and speak with Mrs. Coleman!
