Parents and Students:

During this extended school closure, the Morgan County Charter School System has remained dedicated to engaging students with academic content and reaching out to families to help meet various needs. We recognize this time has tested us all. Because the COVID-19 pandemic has presented unprecedented challenges, the Georgia Department of Education and State Board of Education have waived some state-required elements for schools such as Georgia Milestones Assessments. Additionally, they have asked local districts to consider ensuring that local policies and practices do not penalize students for circumstances beyond their control. At the May 11, 2020, Board of Education meeting, the Board approved a waiver of Policy IHE: Promotion and Retention for the 2019-2020 school year. This approval allows us the flexibility to change our grading practice to one that is only positive for students' averages.

Infinite Campus has worked with us to capture the student's average from March 13, 2020. This in-progress average will not decrease, and all work submitted during the closure will only be counted if it improves this average. Any missing assignment due after March 13, 2020, will not be calculated as a zero. Grades earned prior to March 13, 2020, can remain as assigned. Teachers will spend the next week updating Infinite Campus to reflect the positive grading practice.

The parent and student Infinite Campus portals will be closed during this time and will re-open on May 22, 2020. If you have any questions, please contact your child's principal.
