Early Intervention Program (EIP)

We are fortunate to have the Early Intervention Program (EIP) for Reading/Language Arts for Kindergarten, First, and Second Grade students at our school. We also have EIP Math for First and Second Grade students. The Georgia Department of Education recognizes that children come to school with varying experiences and may need some assistance in learning Pre-reading, Reading, Language Arts, and/or Math skills. EIP is a regular education program that provides our school with additional teachers to help children learn the required skills to reach grade level performance in the shortest possible time.

Kindergarten EIP teachers typically take groups of children (approx. 14) to their classrooms for 50 minutes for literacy activities (recognizing letters, phonetic sounds, listening to and retelling a story) in addition to similar activities in their Kindergarten classrooms.

First and Second Grade EIP teachers come to classrooms during Reading class for one hour to provide additional reading and skills practice. First Grade students may also go to the EIP teacher for individual tutoring in Reading.

We also have an EIP Math teacher for First and Second Grades, and she takes students to her classroom for Math instruction for one hour.

Students may go to EIP Reading/Language Arts and/or Math teachers for a short period of time (ex. – 9 weeks), for a longer period of time (ex. – 18 weeks), or all year, depending on individual need. Kindergarten students are evaluated for letter recognition, phonics, print concepts, and retelling of a story. First and Second Grade students are evaluated for Reading level, comprehension, fluency, and other literacy skills, as well as grade level math skills. EIP teachers and classroom teachers cooperate to provide the most effective educational program for your child.
